Aquaponics, a smart solution saving water. A money saving alternative solution to Hydroponics.

Why should we buy an aquaponic system?

Guaranteed fresh food for you, your family and friends free of harmful chemicals. You cannot get this guarantee anywhere else.

Fresh organically grown fish. Unless you catch it yourself in a clean environment you do not know how fresh or chemical free it is.

Save Water - Water usage is extremely low as stated by government organizations, therefore is a cost saving. The following is a statement made by Dr Wilson Lennard on behalf of Ceres Community Environment Park;

Aquaponics in the Backyard

Aquaponics is the integration of recirculation fish culture with hydroponics plant production. In Aquaponics, nutrient-rich water is seen as a commodity instead of a waste, and is used to grow plants. Once the plants have utilised to nutrients the water is returned to the fish for further fish culture, and the perpetual cycle begins again. The advantages of Aquaponics are many. It is the most water efficient form of agriculture known, there are near zero environmental impacts and systems are typically highly space efficient and suitable for intensive urban agriculture.

Dr Lennard is a biologist and commercial Aquaponics consultant who has been researching Aquaponics systems suitable for Victorian conditions for the last 7 years.

  • The history of Aquaponics and its relevance today in regards to water scarcity and food localisation.
  • The technical considerations of building your own system at home.
  • Suitable fish and plant species, fish feeding and plant nutrient requirements.
Water quality and testing, manipulation of system temperature during winter and more.

Save money by growing fresh vegetables needed each day rather than buying a quantity per week, then discarding wasted vegtables because they are no longer fresh.

Before purchasing an aquaponic system do your own research. Keep a cost record of vegetables purchased for a couple of months, then take a weekly average. You will be surprised at the cost especially if they are organic.

Growing your own organic vegetables using the aquaponics system and save money, save water and help protect your environment whilst enjoying the fresh taste of the produce you created.
